I've been doing prepin' for about 4 years. It seems best to go slow & steady. Build up your food reserves with stuff you normally eat & rotate that stock. 6 cases of MRE's may sound cool but...

For supplimental heat we use a fireplace insert. It proved out back in January when our furnace quit on the coldest weekend of the month.
